IMPORTANT Meeting for All ISTE Second Life Members
February 21, 2012
ISTE Auditorium on Second Life
Livestream session for those that can't make it in-world.
5:00 PM SL Time (8PM EST)
Noreen Strehlow, aka Norma Underwood, has been an avatar citizen since the summer of 2007. Since then she has managed Second Life shops for her own artwork, her children’s book called “Pillowface,” and her line of clothing under the Norma Underwood label. She was the estate manager for a private island on the teen grid for two years and since November of 2008 she has owned her own island on the Reaction Grid where she has been teaching Jr. High Electives focusing on the building tools and spatial reasoning.
Now back in the art room after four years as a technology integration specialist for Phoenix Elementary, the focus of the island is primarily art elements and a place for displaying student artwork. Two student builds were brought over from the teen grid but most is new to the RG.
This semester will include a Math Nets Sandbox for 4th graders who will inhabit child avatars and create prims that match the nets on the building platform. (She wants one of the math educators to please explain to her why they are called nets when most people in everyday life would refer to them as patterns or templates and they bear no resemblance to a net whatsoever!)
In real life, Noreen is a product of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, who fled the cold in 2004 and now living the opposite temperature extreme in Tempe, Arizona. Obviously, she has no social life at all.
